Baia Mare is located in the north-west of Romania. Baia Mare was the capital of the mining and metallurgical industry in Romania, but has changed its economic profile in the past 10 years. Due to the closure of mines, the city now has a secondary-tertiary profile, with predominant industrial, construction and services activities.
The transport system has a redefined profile, through the decrease of the industrial transport due to a declining economy and the increase of public and freight transport from the tertiary and service sectors.
Urban pressure in terms of changing the flows of goods and people transport, is primarily related to the changing transport profile and especially to the inadequate urban infrastructure
