Vila Real, Peso da Régua and Lamego are three cities located in the same natural and economic unit, the Alto Douro Wine Region, strongly interconnected by the intensive institutional, social, economic and cultural relations in recent years. This territory forms an Urban Axle with just over 15 km long and an approximate population of 95,700 inhabitants, which represensts approximately 47% of the total population of the NUT III Douro. With their own identities and specificities, the three cities together, complement and strengthen up.

Status of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan

The SUMP/ PMT called «Sustainable Mobility Plan for the cities of the urban Axis Vila Real, Peso da Régua and Lamego and envolving territories» is in it’s final stage of development.
Under the Portugal 2020 framework, Sustainable Mobility Action Plans are being developed for all the Intermunicipal Communities (NUT III). Douro Alliance association is integrated in the Douro Intermunicipal Community Action Plan.
