Fundão is inserted in the Central Region (NUTS 2) of Portugal, sub-region of Cova da Beira (NUTS 3), on the northern slope of the Serra da Gardunha. The location within the centre of Portugal and its proximity to the border with Spain gives to the city of Fundão a peripheral position relatively to the more developed coastal areas. The Highway of Beira Interior (A23) and the rehabilitation of the Beira Baixa railway line have a key role in getting close to the neighbouring cities and the large urban centres.
