The municipality of Ribeira Grande is located on the north coast of the island of São Miguel, in the archipelago of the Azores.
In general the economy of the municipality is dominated by livestock industry, namely milk and meat production. Agriculture and construction are also important activities.
Ribeira Grande is one of the Azorean municipalities with higher population growth and it remains as one of the youngest.
The scenic landscape bears the marks of the volcanic origins of the island: steep mountains, extensive pastureland, mineral springs and ponds.The coastline is neatly trimmed, dominated by cliffs, sometimes high, interrupted by stretches of beach.
