Odorheiu Secuiesc is currently the second city in terms of size, in Harghita county, being the cultural, economic, educational and administrative centre of the Odorhei area. It is located in southeastern part of Transylvania, on the upper side of Târnava Mare River, at the junction of three main arteries: 50 km away from Sighișoara, 47 km away from Miercurea Ciuc (county residence) and about 50 km away from Sovata. The total roads length in the city is of 92 km.
In terms of transport, at present, city traffic is quite congested due to the geographical position in a relatively narrow valley, first of all, but also because of the increasing number of inhabitants and motor vehicles. Alternative means of transport (walking and cycling) are very popular in the area, a culture which was supported and highly developed in the recent years.
