The Municipality of Olhão, situated in the South of Portugal, in the Algarve Region, with a population of 45 396 inhabitants, has a strong connection with the sea and the Ria.
As the largest fishing port of Algarve, Olhão is a lively and festive fishing town. It also has some of the most enchanting landscapes and beaches. Just short boat trips away are the natural treasures of Olhão: the Ria Formosa Reserve and the long beaches of the Armona Island.

Status of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan

Olhão has finished a SUMP/PMT for the municipality in 2013 (Mobility and Transport Plan for the Municipality of Olhão -PMTO). The SUMP/PMT for Central Algarve («Interurban Mobility Study for the Central Algarve»), in a partnership with the municipalities of Faro, Loulé, Tavira, São Brás de Alportel e Albufeira was completed in 2014. 
Under the Portugal 2020 framework, Sustainable Mobility Action Plans are being developed for all the Intermunicipal Communities (NUT III).
