České Budějovice is a regional centre, located on the Prague-Linz route. Its main resources for tourism is an abundance of historical and cultural sites in the city and its vicinity, and nearby natural parks and sites, especially large fish ponds, lakes and reservoirs and mountain areas. The main public transport mode is a trolley bus. The Vltava river also allows for freight and recreational transport. The main transport problems lie in the high share of individual car use due to urban sprawl and missing bypasses for freight and transit transport, leading to high levels of air and noise pollution.
