Győr is the 6th biggest city in Hungary, situated in the north-western part of the country, half-way between Vienna and Budapest. The radial roadnetwork connects the settlement to Slovakia from the north and to Austria from the west. Győr is one of the main railway junctions in north-western Hungary, with important connections to Austria and Slovakia. The Győr-Pér airport has strong economic role in the region and makes the town accessible by air as well.

The Baroque style downtown, the rivers and the medicinal waters of the city, the festivals and programmes attract many visitors throughout the year. As tourism is a strategic aspect, a free 'city bus' is operated in the centre by the municipality. Mention must also be made of the implementation of the real-time traffic information system for public transport which is proved to be a big step towards creating a more livable city. Győr introduced a public bike rental system in 2015, today it is operating with 34 stations.
