Ilirska Bistrica is a town where cars are still the most common means of transportation, even for short trips (e.g. taking children to school, despite functioning school transportation). There is a problem with transit traffic in the town, despite having a bypass. Parked cars take up a lot space in the town.

Public transportation is not functioning well enough to persuade people to use it. The flat terrain makes the area ideal for walking and cycling, but to make these modes more attractive the network expansion and adaptation of cycling and pedestrian paths is necessary.
