The town of Cugir is located in the southwestern part of Alba county, in the contact area of the depression area of Orăştie with the Şureanu Mountains, in a very picturesque natural setting, at an altitude of 300 m above sea level, at a distance of 45 km of Alba Iulia, 97 km of Sibiu, 45 km of Deva, 149 km of Cluj-Napoca.

The major traffic network includes the streets that provide the following functions:
- Access to the city on the county road DJ 704;
- Connecting streets representing the major communication network between points of entry - exit from the city and areas of socio - economic and administrative interest;
- Collector streets (which provide communication between connecting streets for local use);
- Streets of local use.

The SUMP refers to the period 2016-2030 and covers its urban and peri-urban area, consisting of the town of Cugir and the seven localities: Bocşitura, Bucuru, Călene, Feţeni, Goaşele, Mugeşti and Vinerea.
