The city of Pforzheim is located between Karlsruhe and Stuttgart and is the main centre for the Northern Black Forest region.

Pforzheim is known nationwide for its jewellery and watch industry and has made a name for itself as a design and university town. The areas of (precious) metal processing, mechanical engineering and precision engineering are also economically significant. The wholesale trade with its Europe-wide activities also occupies a leading position.

The rivers Enz, Nagold and Würm have a formative influence on the natural environment and, as a portal to the Black Forest, the town of Pforzheim is closely linked to the forest. A good half of the Pforzheim region is covered with forest.

The traffic in the city of Pforzheim is characterised by the motorway BAB A8, three important federal roads (B10, B294 and B463) cross Pforzheim. The railway lines Karlsruhe-Pforzheim-Stuttgart, Pforzheim-Bad Wildbad and Pforzheim-Calw-Freudenstadt serve the central station located in the city centre, a further 6 railway stops are served by various regional trains (Albtal-Verkehrsgesellschaft AVG, DB Regionalverkehr Alb-Bodensee, Go-Ahead BW, Abellio Rail BW). The public transport development in the area is carried out by 20 regional and 13 city bus lines.
