Overall Project Description show_help

SEGMENT was an Intelligent-Energy-Europe-funded project which tested consumer market segmentation techniques to persuade people to adopt more energy efficient forms of transport.

In the framework of SEGMENT, the "walking bus” initiative was conducted with the cooperation of several schools in the district of Lozenets in Sofia (7-9 May 2012). The second stage of the event was conducted in September (24 - 26) 2012. "Walking bus" is a group of children walking to school together, accompanied by parent and teacher. Walking to school gives primary school children a really healthy start to their day. It reduces car traffic and encourage energy efficient forms of transport.

Lessons Learned show_help

Generally the idea was to organise the parents and to make such a route which will be time effective.
But what happened was that parents were convinced to participate in this initiative only if the children's teacher participate as well and walk with children to school. This is causing difficulties because the teacher has to be at the first stop and walk with children while he has to be at school for the arrival of the other children.
Because of this the role of the school is very important for organising such initiatives.
