Overall Project Description show_help

Pilot project that explores the motivation and the ability of pupils and students in the region of Groningen to travel to school by e-bike. When students use a pedelec, this relieves the busy PT towards Groningen during peak hours. End 2014/early 2015, 170 pupils and students used a pedelec during a month for their trips to school. Their trips were tracked with a GPS system.

In the project schools, students and pupils, companies, local, regional and national governments,PT operators and PT authority were involved. Groningen Bereikbaar carried out the measure.

Lessons Learned show_help

The appreciation of the pedelec is high. For all levels of education the picture resembles. Peddlers do not have any longer an image as a transport means for elderly. At colleges this still is a (minor) issue.
Students like speed and the ease of using a pedelec. Negative arguments include that a regular bike is as fast, and the weather.
There is a potency of 420 pedelec users in the region. Together they may replace 281 PT rides by pedelec trips on a daily base.
