13th ECOMM in Donostia-San Sebastián 2009

This years’ ECOMM has take place in Donostia-San Sebastián from the 13th - 15th of May 2009. The main theme was Cost/benefit and evaluation of Mobility Management.
Subtopics were:

  • Mobility Management and urban planning / local access
  • Mobility Management and health/obesity
  • Mobility Management and the renaissance of cycling
  • Mobility Management and winning back public spaces (car free days, shared space)
  • Mobility Management and leisure tourism

About Donostia-San Sebastián
Donostia-San Sebastián is a city with a population of around 185.000 inhabitants. It is located at the spanish coast, only 20 km away from the french border.
It is easy to reach by plane directly to Donostia-San Sebastiáns airport or by a direct bus service from the airport in Bilbao only 90 km away.

Donostia-San Sebastián has developed a number of initiatives on urban mobility since the early 1990s.

In spite of the cities growing size, increasing motorisation and the periurbanisation of tertiary industry, there are following initiatives:

  • Recovery of streets for pedestrian use (walking and being)
  • Bicycle as an urban means of transport
  • Keep the use of public transport at a high level

Donostia-San Sebastián took part in European Projects such as INPHORMM, COST C6, STEER - SNOWBALL and CIVITAS+ and is also a member of UITP.
